Terms of Use

These terms cover the Sozo apps (Android, Android TV, iOS, Windows, macOS and Linux), this website, and the backend they talk to. By installing or using Sozo you agree to them. If you do not, please do not use the app.
1. What Sozo is — and what it is not
Sozo is a client, not a library. It hosts no video, stores no media catalogue of its own, and uploads nothing. What it does is index sources that are already publicly reachable on the internet and present them in one interface — much like a web browser with bookmarks.
For many sources your device connects to the third-party site directly. Sozo does not control those sites, does not vet what they carry, is not affiliated with them, and cannot vouch for the legality of any particular item in their catalogues.
You are responsible for how you use Sozo and for complying with the laws of the country you are in. If streaming a given title from a given source is not lawful where you live, the fact that Sozo can display it does not make it lawful.
2. Who may use it
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account, and old enough under your local law to agree to these terms. Some sources and optional extensions carry material intended for adults; you must be of legal age in your jurisdiction before enabling them.
3. Your account
- Provide an email address you actually control — account recovery depends on it.
- Keep your password and your App Lock PIN to yourself. You are responsible for activity under your account.
- One person per account. Do not share, sell or transfer an account.
- Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed by someone else.
4. Acceptable use
Do not:
- Harass, threaten, impersonate or abuse other people in comments, watch parties, premieres or anywhere else in the app.
- Post spam, advertising, malware, or links intended to deceive.
- Attack or overload the service — automated scraping, credential stuffing, denial of service, or attempts to bypass rate limits.
- Attempt to reach administrative endpoints, other users' data, or any part of the system you have not been given access to.
- Create accounts to evade a ban, or manipulate leaderboards, likes, streaks or download counts.
- Use Sozo to redistribute content commercially, or to build a competing service on top of our backend without permission.
Reverse engineering the client is permitted to the extent the software licence and your local law allow it — the app is open source and you are welcome to read it.
5. Comments, chat and anything else you post
- You keep ownership of what you write. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display and distribute it within Sozo, for as long as you leave it posted.
- You are responsible for what you post and confirm you have the right to post it.
- We may remove content, hide it, or suspend an account for breaking these terms. We do not pre-screen everything, and moderation is best-effort rather than guaranteed.
- Deleting your account removes your comments.
6. Connected accounts
Connecting AniList or MyAnimeList authorises Sozo to write your episode progress to that service on your behalf, for titles you have linked. It writes nothing else. You can disconnect at any time from Profile → Connections; entries already written stay on that service and are yours to manage there. Your use of AniList or MyAnimeList is also governed by their own terms.
7. Extensions and repositories
Sozo can install third-party extensions from repositories you choose. These are not written by us, are not reviewed by us, and run with the app's own network access. Installing one is your decision and your risk. Only add repositories you trust.
We may show a list of commonly used repositories as a convenience. That is not an endorsement, and we are not responsible for what any extension does, fetches or displays.
8. Copyright and takedown requests
Sozo does not host, upload or store the video it plays. If you hold rights to a work being made available by a third-party source:
- The effective remedy is to contact the site hosting the file, which is the only party able to remove it.
- If a source integration in Sozo is the concern, write to us with the work, the source, and enough detail to identify it, plus a statement that you are the rights holder or authorised to act for them. Where a complaint is valid we will disable or remove the source integration.
Repeated, valid complaints about a source lead to that source being dropped from the app.
9. Availability and changes
Sozo is a free, volunteer-run project. Sources break, servers restart, and features are added and removed. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the service at any time, including individual sources, without notice and without liability. Nothing here is a promise of uptime.
10. No warranty
Sozo is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or that any particular source or title will keep working.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the project and its maintainers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, nor for loss of data, loss of downloaded files, or any claim arising from content reached through third-party sources or extensions. Because Sozo is provided free of charge, our total aggregate liability to you is limited to zero.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions; where that is the case, these limits apply only as far as the law permits, and your statutory rights are unaffected.
12. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or ban an account that breaks these terms, abuses the service, or harms other users. You may stop using Sozo and delete your account at any time — see the Privacy Policy for how.
13. Software licence
The Sozo client is open source and released under the GPL. The licence governs the software itself — copying, modifying and redistributing the code — while these terms govern your use of the service we operate. Where the two overlap, the licence wins on questions about the code.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan, without regard to conflict of law rules. If you are a consumer elsewhere, you keep the protections of the mandatory law of your country of residence.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced on our Telegram channel and the date at the top will change. Continuing to use Sozo after that means you accept the new terms.
